Rebel Volleyball Update for 2020

Updated: Jun 10, 2020

As we prepare to kick off another season of Rebel Volleyball, we must consider what has changed since last year. First and foremost, COVID-19 has changed all our lives and the way we will participate in athletics going forward. At this point, there is still a lot of unknowns surrounding Fall Sports at Columbine. While the Jeffco School district is working closely with Jefferson County Public Health, we are optimistic about the upcoming season.

A few days ago, Jeffco Public Schools announced that athletics will be restored beginning June 22, 2020 under a phased approach and set of conditions to ensure the health and safety of participants. More information and details of what the ‘phased approach’ will look like is expected to be released in the coming weeks. This will include details surrounding participation guidelines, timing, and other potential requirements to ensure safety. We appreciate the patience, understanding and flexibility of student athletes and their families as we prepare our facilities and define the information you will need about the restart of our athletic programs. Your Rebel Volleyball Coaching staff is excited to safely welcome our athletes back into the gym and begin training.

Another big change in our program for the 2020 season is our coaching staff. We are excited to introduce our new Head Varsity Coach and Program Director, Shelly Kurach. With an extensive background in teaching, Coach Kurach also brings with her many years of coaching and playing experience and is excited to be back with the Rebel Volleyball family. Coach Kurach is proud to introduce her staff for this season:

· Marnie Bilbrey, Assistant Varsity Coach

· Andrea Wood, JV Team Head Coach

· Aja Linton, Level 3 Team Head Coach

· Joe Lesniak, Freshman Team Head Coach

More info about our coaching staff (including a short bio for each) will be posted to our ‘Coaches’ page soon.

As with most things, change is inevitable. This year, we will see many changes to make our facilities, equipment, coaches, athletes, and everyone involved in our program safe. We are excited to get into the modified summer program and for face-to-face meetings with the athletes.

GO REBELS!
